Patient Care Volunteers help by providing companionship to the patient and respite for the caregiver. During these visits, a hospice volunteer may listen, talk with or read to patients. They may also take walks, help with meals, run errands, play cards or just offer a gentle pat on the hand.
Clerical Support Volunteers are appreciated by the office staff and are valuable members of the Hospice Team by providing adminstrative support. They offer help to the staff by typing/data entry, preparing bulk mailings and answering the telephone.
Bereavement Volunteers offer support to the families of deceased patients during the grieving process by friendly calls, cards and reminders.
All volunteers receive training focused on learning the philosophy of end of life care and understanding the role of the volunteer. The training covers the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of death and dying. Volunteer Training provides the confidence needed to feel comfortable in either the hospice office or in the patient's home.
Blue Water Hospice is always looking for committed volunteers to become a part of our Hospice Team. Volunteering with our program can be a truly rewarding experience - one that is appreciated by so many. Training is offered 2 times a year.
